Respectful investigation at cemeteries and memorial sites
A conduct guide for visiting graveyards, battlefields, disaster sites, prisons, hospitals, and other places tied to real grief.
Many haunted locations are also places of grief. A cemetery, battlefield, prison, hospital, or massacre memorial is not a stage set.
Respectful behaviour protects the site, the living community around it, and the credibility of anyone researching its stories.
Before you visit
Check opening hours, photography rules, cultural expectations, and whether the site is active for worship, mourning, or family visits.
Do not bring large groups, loud equipment, costumes, alcohol, or anything that turns a memorial into entertainment for bystanders.
On site
Stay on paths, do not touch graves or offerings, keep voices low, and stop filming if mourners or staff are nearby.
If a location has traumatic history, lead with documented context. Avoid language that treats real suffering as a spooky prop.
Afterwards
When posting, avoid sensational thumbnails, jokes about victims, or claims that identify real dead people without strong reason.
Good paranormal culture can be curious and compassionate at the same time. If in doubt, choose dignity.
