Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 29 May 2026

1. Introduction

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Paranormal Country at https://paranormalcountry.com (the “Platform”), including our website, mobile experiences, and related services (together, the “Service”).

Paranormal Country is a free online community for people interested in paranormal investigation, haunted locations, and related topics. We provide social features such as profiles, feeds, groups, pages, events, messaging, and investigator connections. We do not sell physical goods, subscriptions, or paid memberships through the Platform unless we clearly say otherwise in a separate written agreement.

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms, our Privacy Policy, and our Cookie Policy, our Community Guidelines, and (if you use Marketplace) our Marketplace Safety Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Who may use Paranormal Country

  • You must be at least 16 years old to create or use a Paranormal Country account. We may ask for your date of birth and other details to confirm eligibility, and we may restrict or close accounts that do not meet this requirement.
  • You must provide accurate registration information and keep your profile up to date.
  • If you provide a false date of birth or try to bypass the age check, we may suspend access while we review the account. We may also introduce additional age assurance checks where required by law, regulator guidance, platform risk, or safety needs.
  • You may only maintain one personal account unless we approve additional accounts in writing (for example, an official organisation page).
  • You must not use the Service if you have been permanently banned, or if you are prohibited from using the Service under applicable law.
  • If you use the Service on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind that organisation and that organisation accepts these Terms.

3. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page shows when they were last revised. Where changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to notify you (for example by email, in-app notice, or a banner on the Platform). Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms. You can request a prior version by contacting us.

4. Your account and security

You are responsible for your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Do not share your password, sell or transfer your account, or allow others to access the Service through your login.

Notify us immediately at support@paranormalcountry.com if you suspect unauthorised access. We may suspend or secure accounts we believe are compromised.

After your account is closed or terminated, you must not create a new account to evade a ban or restriction without our permission.

5. Electronic communications

By using the Service or contacting us electronically, you consent to receive communications from us electronically (email, in-app notifications, or on-screen notices). You agree that such communications satisfy legal requirements that they be in writing where applicable.

6. The Service we provide

We strive to provide a safe place for investigators and enthusiasts to connect, share experiences, and organise activity. Features may include, without limitation:

  • Personal profiles, timelines, and audience controls;
  • Posts, comments, reactions, stories, reels, polls, and media uploads;
  • Groups, pages, and event discussions;
  • Private and group messaging;
  • Investigator connections (friends and related audience lists);
  • Location or venue listings submitted by the community;
  • Community marketplace-style listings for paranormal-related gear (user-to-user), subject to our Marketplace Safety Policy;
  • Gamification such as ranks, points, coins, or gems (virtual only).
  • Field reports — timestamped sighting logs with optional photos, video, audio, GPS, and community map publishing after review;
  • Investigate tools — including private Case Rooms, Haunt Passport explorer log, Paranormal Academy lessons, Evidence Lab metadata helpers, guided paranormal trails, local investigation chapters (crew groups), investigator pages, and Monthly Mystery Challenges;

We may add, change, or remove features at any time. We do not guarantee any feature will remain available permanently.

7. Paranormal content and important disclaimers

Content on Paranormal Country reflects personal opinions, folklore, theories, and field experiences. It is for community and entertainment purposes and is not professional advice of any kind (including legal, medical, psychological, safety, or investigative advice).

Do not rely on posts or messages when making decisions that could affect health, safety, property, or legal rights. Always follow local laws, obtain permissions before investigating property, and use appropriate safety precautions. We do not verify claims about hauntings, entities, or locations. Tools such as the Evidence Lab, Case Rooms, and Paranormal Academy help you organise research — they do not prove paranormal activity or replace professional investigation, legal, or safety advice.

8. Your content

You retain ownership of content you post or upload (“Your Content”), subject to the licence you grant us below. You are solely responsible for Your Content and for ensuring you have all rights needed to post it (including photos, videos, audio, and text).

8.1 Licence you grant to us

By posting or submitting Your Content on the Service, you grant Paranormal Country a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt, publish, display, distribute, and communicate Your Content only as needed to operate, promote, and improve the Service (for example showing your post to people you allow, resizing images, or backing up data). This licence ends when Your Content is deleted from our systems, except where retention is required by law or reasonable backup cycles.

8.2 Audience and visibility

You control certain audience settings (public, friends, custom lists, group-only, and similar). You understand that people who can see your content may copy, screenshot, or reshare it outside our control. Set your audience carefully.

8.3 Tagging and mentions

If you tag or mention other members, you confirm you have a legitimate reason to do so. Tagged members may receive notifications. Do not harass or defame others through tags or mentions.

9. Rules of acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Break any applicable law or encourage illegal activity (including trespass, harassment, or fraud);
  • Post threats, hate speech, sexual content involving minors, or gratuitous violence;
  • Bully, harass, stalk, or intimidate any person;
  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation;
  • Share malware, phishing links, or attempt to compromise accounts or systems;
  • Scrape, crawl, or collect data from the Service without our written permission;
  • Spam, run unauthorised promotions, or manipulate engagement (fake likes, coordinated inauthentic behaviour);
  • Infringe intellectual property, privacy, or publicity rights of others;
  • Upload media you do not have rights to use;
  • Circumvent security, access controls, or virus scanning on uploads.

Group administrators and page owners may set additional rules for their communities. You must follow those rules when participating. See also our Community Guidelines for member-friendly examples of acceptable behaviour.

10. Enforcement and moderation

We are not obliged to monitor all content but we may review, remove, restrict, or refuse any content or account at our discretion. We may issue warnings, remove posts, limit features, suspend accounts, or permanently ban members who violate these Terms or harm the community.

You can report content or behaviour using in-platform tools or by emailing support@paranormalcountry.com. We will consider reports in good faith but are not obligated to take any particular action.

If your account is suspended or banned, you may contact us to appeal. We are not required to restore access.

Community Notes let members add context to posts (similar to crowd-sourced notes on other platforms). Notes do not replace our moderation tools and do not mean we endorse their content. Submitting false, harassing, or defamatory notes is prohibited. We may hide, reject, or remove notes that violate these Terms or our Community Guidelines.

11. Groups, pages, events, and messaging

Administrators of groups or pages may approve membership, moderate posts, or require post approval. Their decisions are their own; we are not responsible for group-level moderation unless we intervene directly.

Messages you send through the Service may be stored and processed to deliver them, prevent abuse, and comply with law. Do not use messaging for unlawful purposes. Other members may report messages that violate these Terms.

Event listings and RSVPs are informational. We do not guarantee events are safe, lawful, or accurately described. Attend at your own risk.

12. Media uploads and security scanning

When you upload evidence media or other files, they may be scanned for malware before acceptance. We may block uploads that fail scanning or violate our limits. Uploading harmful files or attempting to bypass scanning is prohibited.

13. Field reports, device access, and sightings map

The field report feature lets you document sightings or anomalies with text, media, and optional location data. It is a member logging tool — not an emergency service, official investigation channel, or substitute for contacting authorities when safety is at risk.

  • Camera and microphone: when you choose Take photo, Record video, or Record audio, your browser or device may request permission. We only receive files you confirm and upload; we do not record in the background.
  • Location: if you tap Use my location (in field reports, regional alerts, events near me, location directories, or similar tools), your device may share GPS coordinates for that action only. We do not track your live location in the background. You can use approximate or hidden map precision, enter text instead, or decline the browser permission.
  • Accuracy and review: you are responsible for the accuracy of your reports. Community map entries may be moderated; a published or verified badge does not mean we or any third party have investigated or confirmed an event.
  • Lawful conduct: do not trespass, harass others, film people without lawful basis, or capture media where prohibited. Follow local laws and property rules when gathering evidence.

Export packs and stored media are provided for your records. Deleting a report or account may not remove copies already shared to the feed, downloaded by you, or retained in backups as described in our Privacy Policy.

Community tools (case files, alerts, verification, and more)

  • Case files are private folders on your account. Saving a post or report does not notify its author.
  • Regional alerts use a location centre you set in Settings. We send in-app notifications when published sightings fall within your chosen radius — not continuous tracking.
  • Confirmations and annotations on public reports are member opinions, not verified facts. Do not harass reporters or submit false confirmations.
  • Check-ins, sky watch rooms, and challenges are coordination and gamification features only. Meet safely, follow local laws, and do not share precise home addresses in public rooms.
  • Content labels (evidence, theory, entertainment) help set expectations but do not replace honest disclosure of hoaxes, AI media, or speculation.
  • In-form consent: submitting a field report requires you to confirm accuracy, lawful evidence gathering, understanding of device permissions, and agreement to these Terms and Community Guidelines; sharing beyond a private log requires an additional sharing consent on the review step.

Investigate hub (Case Rooms, Passport, Academy, and related tools)

  • Case Rooms are private-by-default workspaces for notes, evidence, timelines, and summaries. They are not public investigation channels, court findings, or proof of paranormal activity. Do not store private addresses, vulnerable witness details, or non-consensual recordings unless strictly necessary for your private record.
  • Haunt Passport lets you log visited or bucket-list haunted places manually. It is not live GPS tracking or real-time location sharing. Choose passport visibility carefully (private, friends, or public).
  • Evidence Lab reads file metadata and helps you document context. It does not analyse, authenticate, or prove paranormal claims. Use it to organise evidence before you share publicly.
  • Paranormal Academy provides practical safety-led lessons. Completion badges are educational milestones, not professional certifications.
  • Guided trails and investigation chapters are community coordination aids. Follow posted safety rules, meet in public where possible, and do not use crew spaces to plan trespass or harassment.
  • Investigator pages are member-managed profiles. A listing in the investigator directory does not mean we verify credentials, endorse methods, or guarantee results.
  • Monthly Mystery Challenges are optional gamification goals. They do not require unsafe behaviour to complete.

14. Gamification and virtual items

Points, coins, gems, ranks, badges, or similar features are virtual only, have no cash value, and cannot be exchanged for money unless we expressly offer and honour a separate promotion. We may change or reset gamification rules at any time.

15. Third-party links and services

The Service may link to third-party websites, embeds, or tools. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party content, terms, or privacy practices. Your use of third-party services is at your own risk and subject to their terms.

16. Our intellectual property

We and our licensors own the Platform, branding, software, design, and other materials we provide, except Your Content and third-party materials. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or reverse engineer our Platform except as allowed by law or with our written permission.

17. Copyright complaints

If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, email support@paranormalcountry.com with: identification of the work, the infringing material and its URL, your contact details, a statement of good-faith belief, and a statement that your notice is accurate. We may remove content and notify the poster where appropriate.

18. Unsolicited ideas

Do not send us confidential ideas or inventions unless we have agreed in writing to receive them. If you send suggestions without such an agreement, you grant us a perpetual, royalty-free licence to use them without compensation.

19. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service at any time and may request account deletion through settings or by contacting us.

We may suspend or terminate your access, with or without notice, if you breach these Terms, create risk for us or others, or where required by law. On termination, your right to use the Service ends. Provisions that by nature should survive (licences granted to us for existing posts during operation, disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity, and governing law) will survive.

20. Disclaimers

The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of member content, and uninterrupted availability.

We do not warrant that:

  • the Service will meet your requirements or be error-free;
  • content posted by members is accurate, complete, or safe;
  • defects will be corrected immediately.

21. Limitation of liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under UK law (including fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence where applicable).

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, goodwill, or opportunities arising from your use of the Service or reliance on member content.

Our total aggregate liability to you for all claims arising from or related to the Service in any twelve-month period is limited to the greater of: (a) £100, or (b) amounts you have paid to us for use of the Service in that period (typically £0 because the community features are free).

22. Indemnity

You will indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from Your Content, your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of another person.

23. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect and use personal data. You must provide accurate information and keep it current.

24. Accessibility

We are committed to improving accessibility. If you encounter barriers, contact us with a description of the issue and we will try to address it using reasonable efforts.

25. Export and legal compliance

You must comply with applicable laws, including UK export and sanctions rules. You must not use the Service where prohibited by law.

26. Assignment

You may not transfer your rights under these Terms without our consent. We may assign our rights and obligations as part of a reorganisation, merger, or sale of assets.

27. Force majeure

We are not in breach if delay or failure results from events beyond our reasonable control (including outages, strikes, natural disasters, or third-party service failures).

28. Entire agreement and language

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, Community Guidelines, and Marketplace Safety Policy (where applicable), form the entire agreement between you and Paranormal Country regarding the Service. These Terms are in English; any translations are for convenience only.

29. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales (United Kingdom). Courts in the United Kingdom have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to mandatory consumer rights where you live in the UK or EEA. If any provision is invalid, the remainder stays in effect.

32. Community Judiciary (The Paranormal Court — social court only)

32.1 Court of public opinion — not a real court

The Paranormal Court is a social court: a structured court of public opinion operated by community members on the Platform. It is entertainment and community moderation dressed in judicial language — not a court of law. Paranormal Country, its operators, staff, and volunteer panel members are not qualified legal professionals and do not provide legal advice. Panel outcomes express community opinion on platform standards only. They are not legally binding or enforceable in any court, tribunal, or regulator, and do not create criminal or civil liability.

32.2 Voluntary platform standards only

By registering an account, posting content, or participating in the community, you consent to have eligible disputes reviewed through this social court process where applicable. You agree to abide by panel outcomes within the Platform only (including content labels, restrictions, reputation changes, and account actions), subject to staff review. This is platform housekeeping — not a substitute for legal process.

32.3 Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree not to hold Paranormal Country or its operators liable for good-faith outcomes of the social court, except where liability cannot be excluded by law.

32.4 Publication complaints and staff review

If you believe a panel summary, feed notice, or archived case record is inaccurate or harmful, you may use the court publication complaints route. Staff may correct, restrict, or remove material after review.

32.5 Staff supremacy

The platform administration retains final authority over safety and legal compliance. Staff may overturn, modify, or ignore any panel decision at any time. Staff decisions on safety and compliance are final for Platform purposes.
