Not to be confused with Tasmania's penal colony, this windswept Mull headland served as an informal graveyard for mariners driven onto rocks by Atlantic gales. Local oral history records cholera burials and unnamed bodies rolled in sailcloth above the tide line.
No visitor centre marks the spot — only a sheep path and stone cairns leaning seaward. Hillwalkers who find the site at dusk describe the roar of waves mixing with what sounds like muffled voices, though the nearest road is miles away.
Current site status
Reachable only on foot via rough coastal paths with no facilities; weather can change rapidly and the cliff edges are unfenced.
