Teatro Colón

The Teatro Colón is Buenos Aires's principal opera house and one of the most acclaimed concert venues in the world. The present building, on Plaza Lavalle, opened in 1908 after nearly two decades of construction under successive architects, blending Italian Renaissance, French and other European influences. Its horseshoe auditorium seats around 2,500 and is renowned for exceptional acoustics; the richly decorated interior includes marble staircases and a domed ceiling later painted by Raúl Soldi.

Like many great theatres, the Colón has its backstage legends.
